This camp is specifically designed for youth ages 7-14 years old who want learn how to do a triathlon. Kids will learn everything they need to know to complete a KIDS Triathlon and have FUN doing it! Bring a parent and learn how to swim around buoys, transition between events, safety on the bike, and how to pace your energy to finish a Kids Triathlon! Have fun using what you’ve learned in a practice triathlon! Distances vary with age group. Post-event refreshments and give-a-ways after the event!

Practice Triathlon Distances

Distances vary with age group.
7-8 yrs 
Swim - ~25 yds Swim - 2 mile 
Bike - 0.5 mile Run
9-10 yrs
 Swim - ~50 yds Swim - 2 mile Bike - 0.5 mile Run
11-12 yrs Swim - ~100 yds Swim - 4 mile Bike - 1 mile Run
13-14 yrs Swim - ~200 yds Swim - 4 miles Bike - 1 mile Run

Must be able to swim, bike and run. Must be turning 7 years old in 2011. A parent or guardian must be present during the camp and practice triathlon. Youth should plan on participating in the age division they will be as of Dec 31st 2011. Please contact coach Liz if you prefer a different catagory.


This event will be held rain or shine, in case of extreme weather conditions such as thunderstorms or unsafe swimming conditions as determined by the event organizers and/or officials the event will be modified or cancelled. No refunds.

Additional sibling discount $10.00
Registration fee does not include $5.00 USA triathlon youth membership

6:00 AM ‐ Arrive at the venue and park at the Church located on Martin road one block down from the pool on the left side. Park in the area to the right when the driveway splits. Please leave the pool parking lot available for volunteers.

6:00-6:30 AM ‐ Registration
Check in at the registration desk show CA membership card and/or USAT youth membership card or sign and purchase the USAT yearly youth membership ($5.00 exact cash or check preferred), receive event packet (race number on race belt, swim cap, and t shirt). You will be given your clinic group and wave number at registration.
Proceed to Transition Area and find your race number. This is your transition space. You will be body marked with your number for the practice triathlon.
Check bike and helmet with the mechanic from RACE PACE.

6:30 AM – Event Meeting in the Transition Area

6:45-8:00 AM – Youth Triathlon camp
Group 1 Pool area for general and open for water swimming techniques
Group 2 Transition area for transition practice
After ~30 minutes groups switch.

8:15 AM – Safety meeting and Pre‐Triathlon Meeting

8:30 AM – PRACTICE TRIATHLON – Older age groups will go first and younger age groups will follow.

~After the Youth Triathlon ‐ Please enjoy post event refreshments provide by the Somerford Place in Columbia.

11 and Over: Swim: 2.5 loops of a triangular course in the pool, Bike: 4 miles - 2 loops of the 2 mile bike course, Run: 1 mile
9-10: Swim 1.5 loops of a triangular course in the pool, Bike: 2 miles – 1 loop of the 2 mile bike course, Run: ½ mile
8 & Under: Swim: L shape course in the pool, Bike: 2 miles – 1 loop of the 2 mile bike course, Run: ½ mile
In accordance with USAT regulation, participants will be placed in the age group they are as of Dec 31, 2011. Please tell Coach Liz if you prefer different.


Note: You may shorten any of the distances above but please let us know in advance if possible. Parents may bike with their child but please bike behind your child as a silent partner and let them navigate as much on their own as possible. We will have helpers in the transition area to help your child transition between disciplines. Please let them do as much as possible on their own!

  • Valid USAT annual youth membership card (or purchase $5.00 youth membership onsite)

  • Swim suit or Tri‐suit
  • Goggles
  • Swim cap (will be provided)
  • Hair‐ties for long hair
  • Bike in good working condition
  • Bike helmet in good condition (no cracks)
  • Shorts to wear over swim suit (optional)
  • Shirt or tank top to wear over swim suit
  • Shoes (no sandals) for biking and running
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Socks
  • Visor or hat for the run
  • 1‐2 water bottles filled with water
  • Other snacks that you may need
