Description This clinic will provide everything you need to know to do a sprint triathlon race, including techniques for open water swimming and transitions, USAT rules and regulations, and tips on how to pace your energy to finish your triathlon race. You will then practice what you have learned in a Sprint Triathlon, consisting of a 500 yd swim, 10 mile bike, and 2 mile run.

For: Anyone wanting to learn more about how to do a sprint triathlon. Great opportunity for novice triathletes to "TRI-IT-OUT" and a great opportunity for those with some experience to fine tune their triathlon racing skills. Must be able to swim, bike, and run. Must be 13 years or older to particpate.
Clinic Details: Learn and practice open water swimming techniques, such as sighting buoys, pack swimming, and navigating a swim course, how to set up a transition area, transition techinques from the swim to bike and bike to run, USAT rules and regulations for triathlon racing, and how to pace your energy to finish a sprint triathlon and much more!
Sprint Triathlon Details: Following the clinic, participants will have the opportunity to practice what they have learned in a non-competitive sprint triathlon; participants can shorten distances if necessary.
The Swim: ~500 yds swim open-water simulated in a pool. Swim ~5 loops of a triangular course The Bike: 10 miles - 5 loops of a 2 mile course on neighborhood roads. Roads will be open to traffic The Run: 2 miles on sidewalks/paths/and grass.
Photo ID, CA membership card (if member), USAT membership card (or purchase $10 single-day membership), swimming suit or tri-suit, goggles, hair ties for long hair, towels, your bicycle in good working order, bike helmet, shorts and top to bike and run, shoes to bike and run, hat or visor, sunscreen (please apply after body markeing), and a water bottle filled with water. Swim caps will be provided.
Must be able to swim, bike, and run. Must be 13 years or older. Must want to have FUN!
Inclement weather policy:
This event will be held rain or shine, in case of extreme weather conditions such as thunderstorms or unsafe swimming conditions as determined by the event organizers and/or officials the event will be modified or cancelled. No refunds.

* Visor or hat for the run
* 1‐2 water bottles filled with water or your favorite sports drink
* Other nutritionals/snack that you may need

* Water proof sports watch (optional)

* Change of clothes
* A SMILE and “I CAN DO IT” attitude!!
Do NOT bring
* Glass items
* IPODs or MP3 players
Pack everything the night before. Eat a healthy dinner and stay well hydrated through the day on Saturday. Get to bed early. Sunday morning eat a light non‐sugary carb breakfast, something that you are used to eating (ie bagel, banana with peanut butter) and drink 16‐20oz. water or healthy sports drink 1‐2 hrs. prior to arrival. Keep drinking at least 8oz. fluids every 15‐30min. (especially if it is hot and humid). Water will provided for you to fill up your water bottles. Apply sunscreen at home and be sure it dries before putting on your clothes.
5:30-5:45 AM ‐ Arrive at the venue and park at the Church located on Martin road one
block down from the pool on the left side. Park in the area to the right when the
driveway splits.
5:45-6:15 AM ‐ Check in at the registration desk, receive event packet, and wave
assignment. Check bike and helmet with the mechanic from RACE PACE. Proceed to
Transition Area and find your number. This is your transition space. You will be body
marked with your number for the practice triathlon.
6:15 AM – Event Meeting in the transition area
6:30-7:45 AM – Triathlon Racing Clinic
Wave 1 Pool area for open for water swimming techniques
Wave 2 Transition area for transition practice/racing techniques
After ~30 minutes groups switch.
7:45-8:00 AM – Pre‐Triathlon Meeting
8:00 AM – PRACTICE TRIATHLON
Course Distances:
500 yd Swim: You will complete 5 loops of an open water swim course in a pool. See
swim course map.
12 mile Bike: 5 loops of a 2 mile bike course on neighborhood roads. Please see bike course map; Start on Quarterstaff Road, right turn on Cardinal Lane, right turn on Owen Brown Road, right turn on Audubon lane, right turn on Martin Rd, right turn on Quarterstaff Road. The roads will be open to traffic. Volunteers will be located at every turn. You must obey all traffic laws and yield to motor vehicles. PLEASE BE SAFE!
2 mile Run: 2 miles on an out and back course on sidewalks and paved paths. There will be one water stop on the run.
Note: You may shorten any of the distances above but please let us know in advance if possible.
